While watching the awesome and visually splendid Olympics opening cermony, as the Indian contingent of athletes passed by, my sister casually remarked that it was ironic that on the day of the Olympics, the President of the country was at the convocation ceremony in IIT Bombay, whilst the President of the ruling coalition government was instead sent to the Olympics among the VIPs for standing and waving at the cameras as our athletes passed by.
Quite an apt reflection of the importance of the President in our country. Not that gracing an important occasion as the convocation of a major university is ‘meh’, but it just might be when you compare it to the Olympics opening ceremony.
