Suggestions Please!

My pal Kutty got me my own domain name for my birthday, and I recently learnt how to manage it and have ensured that my URL redirects people to my blog, at least for now.

The domain name was purchased before a porn site could be made out of it (though in retrospect, a good porn site bearing my name would have been a brilliant idea), and it was picked up from the yahoo small business site.

Yahoo small business has given me an option to either
a) Create a feed from another existing website/webpage (which is what I have done by using my blog)
b) Create a starter page as a placeholder until something else can come up on it. The starter page sounds like a good idea, except for the fact that it only provides contact information and does not support any HTML links on it.

I can create a geocities or some other similar hosting site webpage, and provide links and descriptions to all the links that I would want people to check out, but it somehow doesn’t feel good enough.

I have a working knowledge of html and I can go ahead and design a page and come up with a layout for it and put in content.

However, here is an exhaustive list of problems for which I am hoping to get solutions:

1) If I create some HTML page for my website, is there any possible way that I can redirect my URL to access that page? Or do I need some server space somewhere for the page to be accommodated?

2) Assuming the first problem has been solved, and the page is up and running, according to my customization, without the use of any hosting site, how would I go about using RSS feeds from various blogs/sites such that they can be displayed on my main page? (Subsequent clicking on the relevant sections would redirect users to the specified link, of course).

Any assistance in this regard is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A: Yes, but Or? It’s the same thing man, ‘cuz without server space somewhere, how will you put your HTML page online, for a URL to redirect there?

Go to http://www.youneedsome.info/ , another domain of mine which I’ve configured to redirect to a Geocities webpage.

GeoCities is now Yahoo!’s, so use your Y! ID to login to http://www.geocities.com ; You can now either create a page using their PageBuilder or put up your own HTML files, gifs, etc. using their Upload tool.

This is how I did it and it’s what I sugges you do too. Select some basic template and fill it in first. That way you can make use of the backgrounds, buttons, etc. they provide. You can then edit the HTML yourself later to add links or whatever. It’s easier than having to write from scratch.

Put queries via mail. I’ll answer.. Besto with your page!
