Children of Men

Children of Men is a movie directed by Alfonso Cuar?n (same guy who directed Prisoner of Azkaban) and is a movie that I would highly recommend to anyone remotely interested. A friend named Nikhit was the guy who gave me the reco. Many thanks.

Children of Men is a futuristic movie of sorts, starring Clive Owen, Michael Caine and Julianne Moore, and is set in London in the year 2027. For reasons unexplained in the movie, the entire female population of the world has been rendered infertile, and this has led to a breakdown of social structures and widespread terror and anarchy prevails.

The movie begins with how the youngest citizen of the world, ‘Baby Diego’, who is all of 18 years old, has been killed, and takes on from there, to leave the viewer stuck to the edge of his seat for the next 120 minutes or so.

It is loosely based on P.D.James’ novel of the same name, and would be a book that I now want to pick up, for the movie has been so enthralling.

There are many things about the movie that makes one want to write about it after having seen it, including its use of single-length continuous shots, some of which last as long as four minutes, and according to the wikipedia page took days to orchestrate and put together. Powerful imagery, brilliant screenplay, random dedications that are peppered all throughout the movie (a gigantic pig floating atop Battersea powerstation as a dedication to Pink Floyd’s ‘Animals’) and the powerful use of imagery over words to convey messages make this movie one of the most amazing ones I’ve seen to date.

Please to be putting watch.
